Raskulls is an excellent title which never quite found the audience it deserved. I think in the Streaming and speedrunning era it would cultivate a small, dedicated community that would really take it to its limits. Very sad that Halfbrick never returned to it. When they released Fruit Ninja VR on Steam, I left a message to say 'Look, I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, but it'd be nice if one programmer was between projects or something to consider porting Raskulls. Not because you'd make millions of dollars, but because it would future-proof the game and I'm sure you'd at least make back your token investment'. They replied with the standard no plans message.

Comes out September 23rdWow, this game is grueling in the best possible way, especially when you have four Ring Wraith looking mofos surrounding you. There is a lot of movement – furious movement – inherent to this game. Imagine bobbing, weaving, attacking, parrying, riposting, spinning and lunging all in the space of 20 seconds and you will have some idea of how physically intense this game really is.
On top of that, throw in dual wielding swords, and you can double your pace. I felt this game working not only the muscular endurance of my arms and shoulders, but quite a lot of the back muscles as well, specifically the lats and traps. Expect to feel this game in your core muscle group as well. If you want a real challenge, try out the Survival mode. I took out 32 baddies until I finally succumbed to total exhaustion and got stabbed in the face.
I’ve since been settling for working my way through Novice level 6-10 to get a good 20-minute workout that doesn’t leave me uncontrollably weeping. Just restrained weeping. Here are the results from my first 20 minute bout in this game. Keep in mind that this is depicting some of the easier encounters you’ll face in the game. It got much, much tougher from there:Verdict: High Intensity- Comes out September 23rdThis game’s strength lies in the speed, accuracy, and rhythm it demands from the player.
The premise is simple and effective. A series of cubes will spawn in front of the player, and you will punch them in successive order before the timer counts down. Once I found my flow I felt like this guy:It was the flow that I was able to sustain playing this game that made it so exhilarating. I wasn’t thinking, I was purely reacting. It was almost Zen.

In fact, I was so Zen, that I didn’t realize until looking back at the heart rate data that I understood what an effective workout this really was. Expect your arms and shoulders to get VERY tired playing this. Here’s the data from that first 20 minute experience (the timer ran longer, but I played only 20 min):Verdict: High IntensityI’ve heard a lot of people sing the praises of AudioShield as an incredibly effective workout. That has not been my experience.
Granted, I’ve been using AudioShield as part of my daily VR fitness regimen for some time now, but purely as a warmup, and with my heart rate never maxing out beyond around 115. The mod allowed me to tweak every little facet of how the orbs spawn, from speed, to frequency, to position. What I found to be the most effective tweak was extending the horizontal span of the colored orbs, so that they spanned a much greater range of distance once they reached me.

By doing this, it enabled me to shuffle from side to side, instead of just remaining rooted in place. Not only is this more demanding, it's more fun too. With the modifications enabled I was able to max out at 136. While that still isn’t what I would consider to be “high intensity” it has allowed me to have a more challenging warmup.I wasn’t able to get a good snapshot for this game, you can get the gist from the highlighred area in the pic:Verdict: Low / Moderate IntensityLast up is Fruit Ninja VR. Not a lot to explain about this game: you slice airborn fruit. I’ve found this game to be surprisingly enjoyable in small doses, and has made for a good warmup/cooldown for me. There are several game modes, but I prefer the Arcade Mode for my purposes.
This is a good example of a game that you can really adapt the pace of your play style to suit your preference. You can play it rather lackadaisically, idly swiping at the projectile produce that's ejected, or you can go all out sword propeller style the whole time - which is basically what I did the first time I played:Verdict: Low / Moderate IntensityWrapping up, this week I have been incorporating all 4 of these games into a new workout:10 Min: Audioshield (Modded)20 Min: Sword Master VR (Closed Beta)20 Min: BitSlap (Closed Beta)10 Min: Fruit Ninja VRBoth days my heart rate got above 180 and both days i burned around 820 cals, which is a marked increase on both counts. This was with an 18.5 lb weighted vest. Yeah.Tuesday’s Workout:Wednesday’s Workout:Edit: Just to clarify, the 20 min snapshots above were conducted without a weighted vest on.Edit 2: Quick shoutout to for putting so much time into his excellent AudioShield ModIf VR Fitness is something that interests you, do check out my or join our.
